Session

Deep tissue massage

Slow, firm pressure through the body, for adults who like to feel the work.

Deep tissue here means slow strokes and sustained pressure, built up in layers rather than forced. Woodrow warms an area first, goes deeper where you ask, and comes back a step the moment you say so.

Lengths

  • 60 minutes

  • 75 minutes, extended

  • 90 minutes, long

What happens

In the room

  1. 01

    Step 1: Ask

You and Woodrow agree on a word from the scale and on any area to leave alone.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Warm

Broad, lighter strokes first, so deeper work comes in gradually.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Work

Slow, sustained pressure on the areas you chose, with a check in the middle.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Close

Lighter strokes to finish, then a minute to sit up slowly.

Good to know

Pressure, cover and what to wear

  • Pressure

Set with you before the session and checked partway through and again at the end. Say lighter or firmer at any time.

  • Covered

You are covered by a sheet or towel the whole time. Only the part being worked on is uncovered, and it is covered again when we move on.

  • Ask your doctor first

If you are pregnant, or have a recent injury or surgery, ask your doctor before you book and tell Woodrow when you arrive.

  • What to wear

Undress to your comfort. Wear what is easy to take off and put back on, and leave jewelry at home.

Who does it

One therapist, one room

The person who asks about pressure is the person who works to it.

  • Woodrow Maddox in a navy polo shirt, standing beside the massage table in his treatment room

    Woodrow Maddox

    Massage therapist and owner

Woodrow works with slow, firm pressure and uses his thumbs, knuckles and forearms where a muscle asks for it. He asks how much pressure you want before you lie down, again halfway through, and at the end. He speaks English.

Questions about this session

How deep will it go?

As deep as you want and your body allows. Pressure builds gradually, and you can change it at any time.

Will I be sore afterward?

Some people feel tender for a day, the way they do after a workout. Drink water, move gently and tell Woodrow how it felt so he can adjust next time.

Which length should I book?

Sixty minutes covers the body at a steady pace. Choose 75 or 90 if you want longer on particular areas.
